Raleigh March 10
If you would like to go to Raleigh with your child, please contact me. To be a chaperone you have to complete a background check. You may do this online at the Wilkes County homepage.
Resources
Literacy:
- Students need to practice vocabulary at home. The vocabulary comes from the stories the child is reading. These are words that the student may not understand. The child should use context clues to understand the meaning of the word. They may also use a dictionary to look up the meaning. Please encourage your child to find the meaning of the unknown word.
- Students should also practice fluency. Fluency is the rate the student reads and their accuracy. Please make sure your child is reading a book on their lexile. If they are reading the story to fast or to slow, they may not understand what they are reading.
- Comprehension is very important when reading a story. If the child is able to tell the story in sequence starting at the beginning, middle, and end, the child understand what they are reading. Please ask your child questions while doing their reading logs each night!
